Particle Effect Texture Essentials

NEW: v2.0 Mega Upgrade

This is the v2.0 Mega Upgrade — a full procedural remake of the original hand-painted pack: roughly four times the texture count, four times the resolution, with the original pack included alongside it, remastered.

Also a basic functional Godot example is also included!

About

A complete particle texture library for game developers and VFX artists. 699 textures, 512x512, greyscale, in three ready-to-use formats.

What you get

  • 534 new procedural textures across 20 categories
  • 165 remastered originals from the hand-painted Essentials pack
  • 3 formats of every texture — 2,097 files in total
  • 20 catalog sheets for browsing by eye
  • A working Godot 4 example project
  • A full usage guide — blend modes, tiling, tile systems, engine setup

Categories

Purpose

Particle textures are the part of an effect nobody wants to draw and everybody needs. This pack covers the whole range in one purchase, at a consistent resolution and a consistent style, so you're not stitching together five free packs with mismatched conventions.

Everything is greyscale so it takes colour cleanly in-engine. Everything is 512x512 so it holds up on large effects — the most common request from customers of the original pack.

The three formats

Every texture ships three times, because engines blend particles in different ways:

  1. Grey on Black — opaque RGB, no alpha. Maximum compatibility; works even in shaders and tools that ignore alpha entirely.
  2. Grey on Transparent — RGB and alpha both carry the shape. For luminance-driven pipelines and alpha-blended smoke/shadow work.
  3. White on Transparent — pure white RGB, shape in alpha. The modern default: tint to any colour in-engine without muddying it.

Pick one folder for your project and stay in it.

Highlights

Modular junction tiles. The lightning and beam sets include a full wang-tile system — straights, elbows, tees, crosses, forks, diagonals and corner curves, in two anchor families with adapter tiles bridging them. Snap them together on a grid to build branching bolts, energy conduits and circuit traces at any size.

Genuinely seamless tiling. 50 textures built to repeat edge-to-edge with no visible seam — fog, rain, snow, scanlines, haze, cloud layers and energy grids, each in light and heavy densities. Verified seamless, not just "probably fine."

3D wireframes. Cubes, pyramids, cylinders, octahedra and spheres as wireframe outlines, in orthographic and perspective projections, at multiple turntable angles, with low-poly faceted tiers and a thick-line variant.

Consistent by construction. These are procedurally generated, so resolution, framing, falloff and naming are uniform across all 699 — no odd-one-out texture that's 256px or off-centre.

Requirements

None. They're standard PNGs.

Works with Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, GameMaker, Defold, Cocos2d, LÖVE, MonoGame, libGDX, Phaser, PixiJS, three.js, Bevy and raylib — and any other engine, framework or compositing tool that accepts a PNG, including After Effects and Blender.

The included example project needs Godot 4 (verified on 4.7.1).

  • Some textures are  in 512 * 512, others in 256*256, and somes in 128 * 128, I imagine you intend to modify this with your upscale tool to do like your crosshair pack ? (some different sizes  versions )
  • Your folders doesn't all contains all the images.

Hope that'll help you update it well later !
Tkae your time on it

No no, the xBRZ isn't the right tool for upscaling these images.

You'll need to use XnConvert (free) to mass resize smooth images:

1. Get XnConvert: https://www.xnview.com/en/xnconvert/

2. Drag n drop you images into it.

3. In the 'Actions' tab, find the Add Actions>Image>Resize. Choose settings.

4. Check the 'Output' tab set up where to send the files, what format, etc.

5. Press 'Convert' button and it should be done.

Its worth mention that this process isn't perfect (it works somewhat but might result in some blurryness or artifacts). The future upcoming big overhaul of this pack will change this by making the default texture sizes to be natively 1024x1024 resolution.

This will take some time to complete and I don't have an estimate for it yet. Maybe month or two +/-.

Hey, your rain textures looks great, but they have weird lines on them, the 1 and  2

Snow1, spacePebbles2 aren't repeatable

I will look into this, I'm actually planning on majorly overhaul this pack after I'm done working on another project that will make it possible.

I'll see about making a hotfix for those issue sooner though.

What are you working on actually ?

Its currently a secret but hopefully I'll get it finished by this month or the next one. It'll be pretty cool for content creation, ideas and a whole lot more.

Hello

SuperPACK

I just bought your asset thinking, well, a only white textures, no black, with transparency...
Could you upload your textures with only white and transparency ?

Because, with black, youn can only use them as mask or withparticles in blend_add, not as a normal sprite modulated for exemple with only white and transparency, we can mix them normally...

Still they are excellente textures and it's ok if you dont. Super job !

Hmm so I understand the ones in the Transparent Versions folder should all be pure white without any grayscale or black/dark tones? Just pure white and transparency?

Yeah I think I can do that.

Ok I did the fixes and created new pure white versions of all the textures. Is this what you needed? (see the main post, download v1.1, check out the new three screenshots lower in the page.)

Wow, thanks a lot ! that's awesome
