Effects Explained:
-
Reverse – Flips your audio backward for eerie or surreal effects. Works great on spoken words, screams, or sustained sounds. Use it to create unnatural build-ups or creepy reversed speech.
-
Pitch Shift – Lowers the pitch for a deeper, heavier voice or tone. Great for turning a normal voice into a monstrous or demonic version. Use on vocals, instruments, or sound effects to make them sound darker.
-
Distortion – Adds grit, harshness, and growling overdrive. Transforms clean audio into something raw and aggressive. Excellent for screams, instruments, or any sound you want to push into chaos.
-
Reverb – Adds echo and space, like shouting in a haunted cathedral or cave. Makes short sounds feel larger or more dramatic. Useful for vocals, drums, or anything needing a ghostly or cinematic atmosphere.
-
Chorus – Doubles and detunes the sound slightly to make it feel wider and more dreamlike. Creates a feeling of multiple voices or tones blending together. Great for turning a solo voice into something layered and eerie.
-
Tremolo – Rapidly raises and lowers the volume to create a stuttering, pulsing rhythm. Best on sustained tones or long notes. Adds an unstable, hypnotic quality to pads, drones, or spoken lines.
-
Bitcrusher – Cranks down the sound quality to add gritty digital noise. Makes clean recordings sound corrupted or retro. Use it to add glitchy texture to vocals, synths, or even ambient sounds.
-
Phaser – Sweeps the sound in and out of phase like it’s warping through a sci-fi portal. Adds a smooth, swirling motion. Ideal for pads, drones, or transforming clean signals into strange, moving textures.
-
Delay – Repeats the sound in echoes, fading over time. Use it to make voices or hits trail off into space. Great for adding depth, rhythm, or dramatic call-and-response effects.
-
Low Pass Filter – Cuts out the high frequencies and muffles the sound. Makes things feel distant, underwater, or buried. Best for transitions, breakdowns, or making something sound hidden.
-
High Pass Filter – Removes bass and low-end rumble, leaving behind thin, airy sound. Gives a ghostly or floating feel. Useful for whispered vocals, radio-like voices, or high-pitched textures.
-
Ring Modulator – Warps and multiplies the sound into metallic, robotic tones. Creates strange, unsettling textures and robotic speech. Best for transforming voices or clean instruments into alien machines.
-
Flanger – Adds a sharp, swooshing motion like a jet engine passing by. Combines the original sound with a delayed copy that constantly shifts. Great on rhythmic parts, synths, or to add dramatic whoosh to transitions.
-
Compressor – Levels out volume changes by squashing loud and quiet parts together. Makes sounds hit harder and feel more aggressive or controlled. Especially useful on punchy vocals, drums, or anything with sharp attacks.
-
Frequency Shifter – Shifts every frequency slightly up or down without preserving pitch. Creates eerie, out-of-tune or detuned results. Best for making clean tones sound broken, uncanny, or alien.
-
Vibrato – Rapidly wobbles the pitch up and down in a controlled way. Adds a sense of tension, instability, or retro sci-fi character. Try it on long notes, eerie tones, or robotic voices for dramatic effect.
Recommended Combos:
PROTIP: Try use only 1-3 effects at a time. Too many effects or wrong combos may lead to a mess.
Default & Essentials
- Reverse + Pitch Shift + Distortion – The default starter combo. Flips your audio backward, deepens it, then rips it apart with aggression. Perfect for turning normal speech into monstrous incantations or demonic reversals.
Cinematic & Atmospheric
-
Reverb + Chorus + Flanger – Creates a rich, layered space that feels like falling into a ghostly dream. Great for melodic sounds, vocals, or pads that need a supernatural edge.
-
Low Pass Filter + Reverse + Reverb – Muffles the highs, reverses time, and washes it in echo. Turns even normal phrases into something ancient and buried.
-
Vibrato + Pitch Shift + Reverb – A shaky, unstable voice lost in a massive space. Works great for alien broadcasts or haunted whispers.
Glitchy & Robotic
-
Tremolo + Bitcrusher + Ring Modulator – Adds glitch, stutter, and robotic metallic textures. Use this on vocals or instruments to turn them into broken machines.
-
Delay + Frequency Shifter + Phaser – A swirling, echoing detune trip. Ideal for making ordinary phrases sound warped, distant, or otherworldly.
-
Flanger + Chorus + Tremolo – Makes sound ripple, wobble, and shift like a liquid hallucination. Good for drones, ambient sound beds, or psychedelic effects.
Aggressive & Destructive
-
Compressor + Distortion + High Pass Filter – Crushed and screaming with no low-end safety net. Try it on screams, snare hits, or anything you want to weaponize.
-
Bitcrusher + Pitch Shift + Distortion – Reduces quality, deepens tone, then drives it into the red. Excellent for vocals that need to sound possessed, corrupted, or violent.
Its pretty versatile; you can easily make something sound demonic, robotic, otherworldly, corrupted, interdimensional, or like its coming out of a radio.
Play around, try different combos, rinse and repeat. You may even learn some cool tricks that you can then later find in Audacity, Tenacity or other audio editing programs for better control.
