Monster Scouter

Monster Scouter is a lightweight, subtle, and universal addon for Doom 2 that displays the health of any monster you're aiming at, including modded ones. No more guessing how much HP that pesky Cyberdemon has left!

Features

• Health Display: Simply point the center of your view at a monster to see its name and health.
• Universal Compatibility: Works with any mod, any monster, and any shootable actor, including barrels.
• Sourceport Support: Compatible with Zandronum, GZDoom, and other sourceports that support ACS scripting.

Versions Available

Note: Load only one version at a time. They don't work together but can be used with any other mods.

MonsterScouter_OldOriginal.pk3

• The original mod displays the monster's name and current/max health at the top center of the screen.
• Health text color changes based on the monster's health level (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%), going from yellow to orange to red.
• Shows the health of corpses, barrels, shootable decorations, and anything else shootable.
• Useful for testing mods with the Summon console command.

MonsterScouter_NewEnhanced.pk3

• Enhanced version created by banjiepixel.
• Shows only actors counted in the monster kill count.
• Monster name color is red for enemies and green for friendly actors.
• Brighter health number colors, ranging from blue to green to yellow.
• Special color for actors with more than 100% health.
• Indicator for invulnerable monster status.

MonsterScouter_CrosshairMinimal.pk3

• Minimalistic crosshair replacer version.
• Appears as a dash (-) at the center of the screen.
• Color changes based on monster health, going from yellow to orange to red.
• Does not show the monster's name or HP numbers.
• Turn off GZDoom's own crosshair in Options > HUD to avoid both showing up.

Recommendations

Monster Scouter is robust and reliable, but if you need a richer text-based health display and custom ASCII crosshair addon with tons of options, consider Target Spy by m8f:

Benefits of Monster Scouter over Target Spy:

• MS is compatible with Zandronum and older ZDoom sourceports.
• MS is simpler and included in Brutal Doom by default.

Plus you can build out your crosshair own colored ASCII characters too! Target Spy is super good! (version 2.0.1 is included with this mod for convenience.)
